Welcome to teriwatkincounselling.co.uk

I have currently stopped my counselling

services for the time being.

I will put my website back up when I restart.

I believe that there are two main things that we look for when we’re choosing a therapist and that both are equally important. The first is obvious, we look for a therapist who is qualified and experienced. The second is not necessarily immediately obvious but nevertheless will make a difference to how we feel about the therapy…it is that that the room that the therapist provides must feel welcoming and calm. The therapist and the room together make a ‘package’ that we will respond to.

I am a senior accredited psychotherapist and have been working with individuals and couples since 2002 in the NHS, the voluntary sector and in private practice. This has given me a wealth of experience working with a wide range of issues and using a wide variety of ‘tools’ which I have gathered over the years; so that I can adapt my way of working to each individual according to what suits them best. I now work near Fakenham in Norfolk where I have created a lovely, warm, welcoming therapy room in what was once a dilapidated Victorian wash house in my garden.

I have had three core trainings: in art psychotherapy, couple counselling and couple counselling for depression. In addition, over the years I have undertaken a number of short courses and continue to read widely so that I now have a lot of training and knowledge to draw upon when deciding with a client how best to work with them.

I designed my therapy room with clients in mind – wanting to ensure that the room enables people to feel as comfortable as possible in what is usually a challenging situation. There is an art-making area for those who would like to use art as a means of communication (see art psychotherapy under the ‘what I offer’ tag).

As an art therapist I am able to facilitate communication even if a client finds it hard to use words or to get started, by enabling them to engage with the range of basic art materials and interesting objects in my therapy room.
